Designer seeks to trademark Blue Ivy’s name
A fashion designer from New York, called Joseph Mbeh, filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, for the name ‘Blue Ivy Carter NYC’. This seems no coincidence because Jay-Z’s and Beyonce’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, was born just four days before.
The designer wants to use the name for a line of children’s clothing and filed the application for class 35, which covers ‘infant, toddler and junior clothing’. In his USPTO filing, Mbeh said that he has been using the ‘Blue Ivy Carter NYC’ name since “at least as early as the ninth of January 2012”; which is just two days after Blue Ivy was born. To support his claim, Mbeh added a ‘Blue Ivy Carter NYC’ logo and photos of children’s clothing to his application.
According to several sources the application was filed without permission of Blue Ivy’s famous parents. It seems that the designer wants to gain media attention by free riding on the coattails of the famous celebrity couple and their daughter. We are curious to see what the future will bring.
