In da Court
50 Cent hits the newspapers again after winning a copyright infringement lawsuit. What happened?
During the release of his fourth studio album and movie Before I Self Destruct, 50 Cent got sued by Shadrach Winstead, who is the author of the book titled The Preacher’s Son-But The Streets Turned Me Into A Gangster.
Winstead claimed that a lot of content and word choice used by 50 Cent was directly derived from his own work. Last week, the copyright infringement lawsuit was dismissed in Federal Court in Newark, New Jersey. The Judges found that the majority of the copyright claims were void since the word choices used derived from common street language, which is not protectable under U.S. copyright law.
