A Patent Attorney, Marc Bethenod provides patent advice to clients in the areas of electronics and IT, in particular, technical information, image processing, modelling, software engineering, telecommunications and cryptography. Marc also leads the Physics - New Information and Communication Technologies Department.

Career history

Marc holds diplomas in Engineering (Ecole Polytechnique de Paris), Telecommunications Engineering (ENS), Licensing, Management from INSEAD and from the Institute for Higher National Defence Studies (IHEDN). He also gained a degree from the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (C.E.I.P.I), majoring in patents, trademarks and designs (University of Strasbourg) in 2003. He has been a French Patent Attorney since 2006 and a European Patent Attorney at the EPO since 2006. Marc started his career in IP in 1990 and joined Novagraaf Technologies in 2010.

Marc is a member of the EPI (European Patent Institute), the CNCPI (National Intellectual Property Attorneys’ Association), LES (Licensing Executives Society) and ASFOREF (IP Assets Financial Evaluation).

Marc's specialist areas include: drafting patents and optimal and strategic management of procedures for the submission of French, European, international (PCT) and foreign patent applications, opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office, opinion work in patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement and validity of patents, national and international litigation and pre-litigation cases, European coordination, confiscation of infringing products, IP strategies around innovative products, auditing patent portfolios, evaluating patent portfolios with a view to financial investments, drafting agreements and licences, setting up intellectual property policies in industry, inventions of employees and company policies, supporting start-ups based on innovative technologies and the organisation of intellectual property questions and follow-up, negotiations at the pre-litigation stage and in the context of setting up licensing contracts, protection of innovation and protection strategies, studies on freedom-to-operate as regards patents, pre-litigation files, negotiations and drafting agreements and intellectual property licences and software licences, and financial evaluations of intellectual property titles (trademarks and patents).
