Counterfeit and fake products: a serious problem for trademark owners

Successful products are counterfeited and copied more than other products. This is simply because the market for them is much larger. After all, the larger the market, the higher the profit.

Counterfeiting is everywhere

Wherever you are, counterfeit and fake products are everywhere. Successful products simply do not go unnoticed. Everything can be and often is counterfeited: from watches and phones to bicycles and locks, and even flowers!

The risk for a small company, which mainly operates locally, should be less, but small and medium-sized exporters operating in several countries will run significantly more risk. It is precisely these organisations that should be alert to the threat of counterfeiting. But, as well as monitoring the marketplace for fakes, there are a number of steps that can and should be taken in advance to mitigate the risks of copying. This includes, for example, the need to make clear contractual agreements with suppliers and any company that licenses your products or Intellectual Property. After all, you will be parting with some of your control options, which could leave you exposed.

The need for a clear strategy

Counterfeiting is harmful to a business and potentially dangerous to consumers. Counterfeiting can seriously endanger your business operations and business continuity. To prevent this, Novagraaf has developed a unique approach to fighting fakes.
