Nicolas Maes
Nicolas Maes initially gained experience in the field of intellectual property by working as a Trademark and Design Attorney at an IP firm in 2014. Since then, he has built up his knowledge of IP and currently advises and assists both multinationals and small to medium-sized companies in managing, developing and exploiting their IP portfolios.
Nicolas is also co-responsible for expanding Novagraaf’s Ghent office and the counseling of companies in East- and West- Flanders.
Career history
Nicolas graduated from the Ghent Law School with a Master in Law in 2013 and spent a brief period working as a tutor to law students. After gaining four and half years’ experience with an IP firm, Nicolas joined Novagraaf in December 2018.
Work highlights
Nicolas advises clients on IP strategies in various jurisdictions and has a strong knowledge of both EU and Chinese trademark law and practice. Furthermore, Nicolas has developed a specialised skill set in the area of Community Designs.
Nicolas acts for clients in a wide range of sectors and is particularly skilled in the pharmaceutical, clothing and food sectors.
