Intellectual Property (IP) Consultant, with a Focus on Trademark Law
| Ghent/Brussels
Do you have a keen interest in trademark law and innovation?
Then our team would be delighted to meet you. We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant with strong grounding in trademark law and an openness to innovative methods and solutions. In this role, you will be the face of Novagraaf and the Questel group, working closely with clients to understand their challenges and guide them through an evolving IP landscape. Your mission will be to manage the IP rights of our clients and advise them in the development and enforcement of their portfolio.
As an IP Consultant, your main challenges will include:
- Knowledge: to-the-point advice to our clients and the further development of services and knowledge in all areas of soft IP (trademarks, designs, domain names, copyright) and related matters (e.g. contracts)
- Customer satisfaction: insight into the client's current and future needs, allowing for qualitative and actionable advice and support
- High-performance culture: contributing to the performance and knowledge of the entire team
You will be responsible for:
- Assisting our clients in all legal issues in the field of IP and the management of their IP portfolio
- Advising our clients on IP strategy, conducting trademark searches and defining the territorial and substantive scope of protection, handling dispute files, oppositions and objections, and drafting defence statements
- Recognising the wishes and needs of clients and translating them into clear, pragmatic and business-oriented advice
- Building and maintaining a relationship of trust with our clients
- The development and expansion of our business
- Representing Novagraaf during IP conferences, webinars, publications and giving presentations to clients, professionals and trade organisations.
The perfect match:
- You have several years (ideally 3 to 5) of experience as a soft IP Legal Counsel and are ready for the next step in your career
- You respond quickly and comprehensively to clients’ questions, and you take the time to advise and support them thoroughly
- You are proactive, flexible, and know how to prioritise effectively in a fast-moving environment
- Like no other, you appreciate the value and importance of good client relationships.
- Excellent command of the English & Dutch, both spoken and written. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
- You enjoy working within a team and contributing to a supportive working environment
- You take ownership, operate autonomously and act as a true advisor, bringing initiative and sound judgement to your work
What we have to offer:
- A full-time, permanent employment with genuine flexibility, including 2 days of remote work per week (offices in Ghent & Brussels)
- A brilliant team of 16 supportive, highly skilled and growth-minded colleagues, enabling you to focus on high-impact advisory work
- A diverse portfolio of prestigious local and international clients
- An open, friendly, and empowering corporate culture with a flat hierarchy, built on proactivity and true partnership
- A workplace that actively supports personal and professional growth
- The best of both worlds: the agility and proximity of a small team combined with the resources, stability and international reach of a larger group
- A highly rewarding bonus scheme that recognises meaningful contribution to business development
- A tech-friendly workplace with opportunities to contribute to group-wide innovation projects and to help modernize tools and processes
